What Is AJ Sellcar?
AJ Sellcar (AJ셀카), also known as Autohub, is Korea's second-largest auto auction operator. Unlike Glovis — which is tied to Hyundai Motor Group — AJ is an independent platform. That independence shows in the inventory: a more diverse brand mix, nearly double the European import share, and the heaviest diesel concentration of any major house.
This is Part 2 of a series profiling each of Korea's five major auction houses with real transaction data. Part 1 covered Glovis. The goal: help you figure out which house fits your sourcing strategy.
Volume and Sold Rate
AJ is the clear #2 in Korea by volume — roughly 75% of Glovis's listings, but with a notably higher average price.
| Metric | AJ Sellcar | Glovis (for comparison) |
|---|---|---|
| Listed | ~10,000 | ~13,000 |
| Sold | ~3,900 | ~5,800 |
| Sold rate | ~51% | ~52% |
| Avg sold price | 1,193만원 (~~$8,200) | 1,076만원 (~~$7,400) |
AJ's sold rate (~51%) is nearly identical to Glovis (~52%), but the average sold price is $800 higher. That gap reflects a different inventory mix: more SUVs, more diesel, and more European imports pulling the average up.
For context, here is how AJ compares to every other major house:
| House | Listed | Sold | Sold Rate | Avg Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Glovis | ~13,000 | ~5,800 | ~52% | ~$7,400 |
| AJ Sellcar | ~10,000 | ~3,900 | ~51% | ~$8,200 |
| Lotte | ~3,300 | ~1,100 | ~53% | ~$12,700 |
| K Car | ~2,000 | 997 | ~64% | ~$5,400 |
| SK | ~3,100 | ~1,900 | ~63% | ~$11,300 |
AJ sits in a unique position: high enough volume to source consistently (~3,900 sold per month), but with a more premium mix than Glovis. If Glovis is the Costco of Korean auctions, AJ is the well-stocked regional chain — slightly fewer options, but a different selection you cannot get at the bigger store.
Top 10 Models Sold
These are the most-traded models at AJ Sellcar over the last 30 days, aggregated by base model.
| Rank | Model | Sold | Avg Price (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Grandeur | 239 | $8,700 |
| 2 | Sportage | 191 | $6,900 |
| 3 | K5 | 160 | $7,700 |
| 4 | Sorento | 156 | $9,900 |
| 5 | Sonata | 155 | $6,400 |
| 6 | Avante | 153 | $6,400 |
| 7 | Santa Fe | 147 | $8,100 |
| 8 | Carnival | 144 | $11,300 |
| 9 | Tucson | 136 | $7,500 |
| 10 | Porter | 132 | $6,200 |
The first thing that jumps out: this is an SUV-heavy top 10. Sportage (#2), Sorento (#4), Santa Fe (#7), and Tucson (#9) — four SUVs in the top 10. At Glovis, only two SUVs made the top 10 (Santa Fe at #7 and Sportage at #10). If you source SUVs for export, AJ has deeper inventory across more models.
Grandeur at #1 is significant. At Glovis, Grandeur is #2 behind Avante. At AJ, it leads with 239 units — the highest Grandeur concentration of any house. For markets where the Grandeur (known as Azera in some regions) is in demand, AJ is the go-to source.
Avante and Sonata drop to #5 and #6. At Glovis, these budget sedans dominate the top 3. At AJ, they are displaced by higher-priced SUVs. This explains the $800 average price gap: AJ simply sells more expensive vehicle types.
The Carnival at #8 continues its streak — it appears in the top 10 at every major Korean auction house, as we showed in our most popular auction cars analysis.
Porter at #10 shows that AJ also handles commercial vehicles, though at lower volume than Glovis (132 vs 221 units).
Manufacturer Mix
| Manufacturer | % of AJ Sales | Sold Count |
|---|---|---|
| Hyundai | ~35% | ~1,380 |
| Kia | ~33% | ~1,300 |
| Mercedes-Benz | 4.4% | 171 |
| Chevrolet | 4.3% | 166 |
| KG Mobility | 3.7% | 144 |
68.7% Hyundai + Kia — still dominant, but noticeably lower than Glovis's 71.7%. The 3-point gap is filled by imports.
The headline is Mercedes-Benz at 4.4%. That is 171 Mercedes vehicles sold in 30 days — nearly double Glovis's European import share. C-Class, E-Class, and GLC appear regularly. If your export market has demand for European luxury at Korean auction prices, AJ is the house to watch.
Chevrolet drops to 4.3% (versus 7.9% at Glovis). If you specifically source GM Korea vehicles — Spark, Trax, Malibu — Glovis remains the better option. But if your mix includes European alongside Korean brands, AJ gives you that variety under one roof.
KG Mobility (formerly SsangYong) rounds out the top 5 at 3.7%, driven by Tivoli and Rexton models popular in certain export markets.
Fuel Type Breakdown
| Fuel Type | % of AJ Sales | Count | vs Glovis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diesel | ~44% | ~1,720 | ~33% |
| Gasoline | 41.9% | ~1,630 | 52.0% |
| LPG | 7.4% | 287 | 7.1% |
| Hybrid | 4.6% | 180 | 5.3% |
| Electric | 1.7% | 66 | 2.0% |
AJ is a diesel-first house. At ~44%, AJ has the highest diesel share of any Korean auction house — 11 points higher than Glovis. This is a direct consequence of the SUV-heavy inventory: Sportage, Sorento, Santa Fe, and Tucson all have popular diesel variants in Korea.
Why does this matter for exporters? Many African, Middle Eastern, and Central Asian markets prefer diesel for fuel availability, towing capacity, and durability. If your buyers specifically request diesel, AJ gives you the widest selection.
Gasoline sits at 41.9% — still substantial, but notably lower than Glovis's 52.0%. LPG is comparable at 7.4%.
Hybrid and electric together account for just 6.3%. If you are sourcing EVs or hybrids, AJ is not the right house. Lotte Auto Auction has ~24% electrified inventory — nearly 4 times AJ's share. We will cover Lotte in Part 4 of this series.
Who Should Source From AJ Sellcar
AJ is for you if:
- You source SUVs — Sportage, Sorento, Santa Fe, and Tucson are all top 10 models, giving AJ the deepest SUV pool of any house
- Your export market values diesel — ~44% diesel share is the highest anywhere, critical for Africa, Middle East, and Central Asia
- You want European imports — Mercedes-Benz at 4.4% (171 units/month), nearly double Glovis, plus BMW and Audi
- You need Grandeur volume — 239 sold, the #1 model and highest concentration of any house
- You want mid-to-upper price inventory — average ~$8,200, ideal for the $5,000–$12,000 sourcing range
- You need volume and variety — ~3,900 sold/month, enough to build consistent shipments with a diverse mix
AJ is NOT for you if:
- You source budget inventory under $3,000 — AJ skews more expensive than Glovis or K Car
- You want EVs or hybrids — only 6.3% electrified (Lotte has ~24%)
- You need Chevrolet — Glovis has almost double the Chevrolet share (7.9% vs 4.3%)
- You want the cheapest average price — K Car averages ~$5,400, nearly $3,000 less than AJ
